Don't skip on understanding what exactly this means, how it shows up, and how we can simply be more conscious and aware of this topic. Susanna Barkataki is a yoga teacher and an advocate and expert in yoga culture.

Laskshya Yoga - Sanskrit Lesson 101

Ok, so this is not a podcast but this one is so important as a new yoga teacher. Sanskrit!

Whether you use it in your classes or not, it's important to stay connected to this part of the yoga practice. Going back to that cultural appropriation piece. Give homage to where this practice came from!

We all have the best intentions when speaking in Sanskrit (pronounced saun-skrit like how sauna sounds. Not san-skrit like sand). And we've all been taught Sanskrit in a very similar way. We hear our teacher say it and then we repeat it. Usually with the English phonetics.

Make an effort to listen to this complexity of the consonants of Sanskrit at the 4:30 mark. But if you have time, listen to the whole thing! Don't be afraid to make a mistake when using Sanskrit but also make an effort to learn the sound of yoga.
